Terrific Teaching Tools for the WMS Art Room
Kelly Nunes Donohue, an Art Teacher at the Westerly Middle School, wrote a grant proposal for the 2014-2015 school year to support the purchase and installation of a Smart-board to be used as a teaching tool in her daily practice. The vision was for her to be able to project her own live demonstrations and pull up websites, images and videos to support and enhance the content she was teaching.
Since the implementation of her proposal, the Art experience has become much more dynamic and engaging with the use of the Smart-board. Students can clearly see demonstrations without crowding around her while trying to model a process. Her students especially love selecting and drawing over images that the Smart-board's drawing tools allow. Because the demonstrations are so much clearer, Mrs. Donohue is able to spend more time one on one helping students in a much more productive manner.
Roughly 600 students per year will benefit from this instructional tool in Grade 5/6 Art at the Westerly Middle School. "The great thing about the Smart-board is that we can view hundreds of works of Art, a video and a live demonstration all with a few clicks. It is a wonderful asset to our program," states Mrs. Donohue.
"I cannot say how very thankful I am for the funding I received from WEEF for the Smart-board. This technology has brought my teaching and the students' engagement to a new level! It is such a great fit for the things that we experience and make in the art room. I have only had this technology for a few months and I am so thankful for the way it is revolutionizing the way that I am able to teach."
