Directed Giving
The Westerly Education Endowment (WEEF) Fund was formed to support the development of innovative and enriching programs for students in the Westerly School District. Directed Giving enables a donor to contribute funds to a particular type of WEEF grant. WEEF wanted to provide the opportunity to donors who are passionate about a specific interest to make contributions which will encourage growth in our schools. Contributions to WEEF can be made to the General Fund, which supports a broad range of academic projects, or to any of our five Directed Funds - Science and Technology, Performing Arts, Literacy, Student Education Initiative and Business and Professional Development.
The educational goals of each of the five areas of Directed Giving are as follows:
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FUND – Students need to interact with current technologies and educational resources that will prepare them for a highly technological future. Providing these resources for our students is costly, and often beyond the means of the general school budgets. Contributions to this fund will support innovative science curriculum development and cutting edge technology focusing on investigative and hands-on learning. PERFORMING ARTS FUND – Supporting programs in both the visual and performing arts, this fund will help bring visiting artists and musicians to our schools, provide resources for expanded music and theater programs, and support an inclusive learning environment by engaging students with a range of abilities and learning styles. LITERACY – Literacy is the framework around which learning is built, an informational highway to knowledge and possibility. It is critical to the future success of each and every student, providing a variety of strategies and processes to construct meaning. This fund will support opportunities to engage students in unique and meaningful programs, projects and activities in all curriculum areas. Click here to read about one of our Literacy grants.
STUDENT EDUCATION INITIATIVE FUND – When student curiosity and interest evolve into projects, it exemplifies the phrase “education is at its best when the learner initiates the learning process.” This fund will provide the resources to support student initiated academic projects that go beyond the curricular resources of our schools. It will support student initiative in the pursuit of their intellectual and personal growth and development. Click here to read about one of our Student Education Initiative grants.
THE PEGGY FRIEND BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND – Understanding the way our economic system operates and how it affects each and every citizen is an important educational objective. Contributions to this fund will further the understanding and appreciation of the professional and business world economy. It will support projects in, but not limited to, economics, finance, law, management, marketing, insurance and human resources. In particular, it will support operating a virtual enterprise and creative collaboration in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and national corporations located locally.
