Literacy Fund

Literacy is the framework around which learning is built, an informational highway to knowledge and possibility. It is critical to the future success of each and every student, providing a variety of strategies and processes to construct meaning. This fund will support opportunities to engage students in unique and meaningful programs, projects and activities in all curriculum areas.

Serendipity

Serendipity is an adult/student reading partnership which for over ten years has brought together parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, high school students, and community volunteers to make a commitment to enjoy and discover the world through reading. Statistical research shows that the more opportunities young adolescents have to reinforce and apply their thinking to the written word, the more successful the students become. Reinforcing the value of written word through a commitment to read together, sharing ideas, making personal connections, and developing background knowledge in the accountable talk format, has been an overwhelming success! There is substantial research on best practice for this analytical, guided queue format.

Comments like "thought provoking, opening minds to different ideas, inspiring, makes me think deeper, and valuable conversations," generated the continuation of this serendipitous journey to offer more opportunities to "hang out with mom, and spend quality time together." WEEF funding supported the beginning of the journey and has given wings to words!
