A family affair (from left to right) - Isabella Lamb, a kindergartener at DCS, plays a cow from the Nursery Rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle"; Christina Lamb, mom, plays a fairy queen; Alexandra Lamb, a 5th grader at WMS, plays a pioneer girl in Dunn's Corners School's production of “Overdue: The Day the Librarian Checked Out."
In the fall of 2014, Dunn's Corners Elementary School took advantage of WEEF's first focus grant opportunity concentrating in the Arts. Their vision was to provide an opportunity for any member of Dunn's Corners School and/or the Westerly community to participate in an "All School Play" - no auditions required; everyone gets a role. DCS's production of "Overdue: The Day the Librarian Checked Out," exceeded everyone's expectations. Over 82% of the DCS student body (208 students), 96% of the Dunn's Corners faculty, members of the Westerly High School band, retired teachers, parents, Granite Theatre performers, a Westerly policeman and many more all participated in the 3 sold out shows on March 27th and March 28th. The Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce later boasted it was "a perfect example of what makes Westerly Hometown Proud."
DCS's "All School Play" was a celebration of students, faculty, parents and the greater community collaborating together through the Arts. WEEF is honored to have been one of the contributing organizations who made this production possible. Congratulations to Dunn's Corners Elementary School for a job well done!
